Terms of Service

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live. If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms for it, and "you" includes that organisation. You may not use the Service if you are barred from doing so under applicable law, or if we have previously closed your account for breaking these terms.

2. Your account

Much of the Service works without an account. To keep boards, saved searches, alerts or a profile, you need one. When you create an account:

3. What the Service is

job-boards.io lets you describe the job you want in a sentence, see postings from an index built from employers' public career sites (and, when signed in, from USAJOBS) ranked against that sentence, keep the ones you like on boards, and track your applications. The Service is provided free of charge.

We may add, change, limit or remove features at any time, including the limits that apply to searches, results, boards, saved searches and alerts, and the rate limits that keep the Service responsive and fair. Where a change takes away something you rely on, we will try to give reasonable notice, but we are not obliged to keep any feature or to keep the Service running. We may also suspend the Service, in whole or in part, for maintenance, security, or reasons outside our control.

Scores, rankings, "No Longer Listed" markers and any other signal the Service shows are produced automatically. They are there to help you decide where to spend your time, and they are not advice, an assessment of you, or a prediction of whether you will be hired.

4. Job postings are third-party content

The postings you see are published by employers and by the U.S. government on their own systems. We read them from public sources and show them to you with a link back to the original. That means:

If you are an employer and want a posting corrected or removed from our index, or your career site excluded from it, contact us and we will act on it promptly. Removing it at its source also removes it from the Service after our next read.

5. Your content

"Your content" means what you put into the Service: search sentences, boards and their names, the jobs you keep and the statuses, notes and votes on them, saved searches and alerts, your profile, any resume you upload, and any feedback you send.

6. Acceptable use

Use the Service to look for work for yourself. In particular, you must not:

Security research. If you find a vulnerability, please report it to the address in Contact before telling anyone else, and give us a reasonable time to fix it. We will not pursue good-faith research that avoids harm to other users, does not access or keep data that is not yours, does not degrade the Service, and stops once a problem is confirmed.

7. Email

If you have an account, we send you email that the account needs: verifying your address, resetting your password, and security notices such as a sign-in provider being connected to it. These are part of the Service and you cannot opt out of them while the account is open. Alert emails are sent only when you turn an alert on, and every one carries a link that turns it off. We do not send marketing email.

8. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, the job-boards.io name and the owl mark, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These terms give you a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as intended, and nothing more. Job postings belong to the employers who published them.

9. Third-party services and links

The Service links to employers' sites and relies on others to sign you in and to run. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, policies or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.

10. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. It forms part of these terms.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using the Service at any time, and delete your account from its settings. Deletion removes your account and your content at once, as described in the Privacy Policy. It cannot be undone.

We may suspend or close your account, or block access to the Service, if you break these terms, if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or others, if we are required to by law, or if we stop offering the Service. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix the problem or to take your data with you. Sections 4, 5 (the feedback licence), 8, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17 continue after your use ends.

12. Disclaimers

Some places do not allow some of these exclusions. Where that is so, they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.

13. Limitation of liability

These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you live in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we remain liable for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or by our failure to use reasonable care and skill.

14. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of content you put into the Service, your breach of these terms, or your misuse of the Service, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and costs, including legal fees, that result. We will tell you about the claim and let you take part in defending it. This does not apply where the law does not allow it, including to consumers in places that prohibit it.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service or the law changes. We will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will also tell account holders by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless the change is required by law or needed to address a security issue sooner. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not, stop using the Service and delete your account.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of job-boards.io is established, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute will be heard by the courts of that jurisdiction, and both of us agree to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in its courts.

Before starting any formal claim, please contact us and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Most problems can be fixed with an email.
